SOME

Frequently asked questions

  • What does the treatment involve?
We use an incredibly small needle (called the invisible needle) to inject Botulinum Toxin to targeted muscles to create a soft natural youthful look. The clinic appointment is around 30 minutes. Each area of treatment generally requires 3 - 6 carefully placed injections.
  • Will it hurt?
No, we use the smallest needles on the market, the ‘invisible needle’ and only a few clients experience a small discomfort. We can use a local anaesthetic cream if you have a needle phobia although generally this is not needed.
  • How long will it take to work and how long will the effects last?
You may start to see some results within 2-7 days with maximal results around 2 weeks after the procedure. The duration of effect is variable from person to person but is generally around 3-4 months, often increasing with repeated treatments up to 6 months.
  • Will I look frozen?
No, we aim to create a natural soft youthful look preserving eyebrow movement. We will work with you to achieve your treatment goals.
  • What are the side effects?
The side effects are minimal and include minor swelling and redness to the injected area (settling within a couple of hours), minor bruising, headaches and a very small risk of infection (true of all injections anywhere on the body). Rarely, botulinum toxin can cause a temporary droop of an eyelid (ptosis) or temporary double vision.
  • Who isn’t suitable for anti-wrinkle injections?
Most people are candidates for botulinum toxin but there are some contra-indications including: women during pregnancy or who are breastfeeding, people with neurological conditions such as Parkinson's Disease, Myasthenia Gravis, Lambert Eaton syndrome, Motor Neurone Disease etc. Some medications can potentiate the effects of botulinum toxin that may preclude its use and we will carefully go through these during your consultation. These include certain antibiotics including: gentamicin, Neomycin, Streptomycin, Ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin and moxifloxacin. In addition, quinine and calcium channel blockers. Blood thinners may increase the risk of bruising but are not an absolute contraindication.
  • Is there any downtime after Anti-wrinkle injections?
For the first 48 hours after your injections we recommend that you avoid alcohol, exercise, direct sun or sun-bed use and avoid heat including hot baths and showers or steam rooms and saunas. We would recommend a two week gap between your injections and having semi-permanent make up applied to your eyebrows. If you are having other facial treatments including peels or use of a dermaroller we would recommend these are not done within 48 hours of botulinum toxin injections. Avoid facials for 2 weeks after treatment.
  • Will I need a follow up?
Most clients will not need a follow up appointment but the personal response to treatment can vary, requiring an adjustment. After two weeks you are welcome to return for a complementary review and adjustment of your treatment if needed.
